About
Still Online is a small, hand-curated directory of multiplayer games you can still play in a browser: early-web classics, the .io wave, and quirky indie party games. It tracks 157 games right now.
Why
Flash is gone and plenty of browser games went with it. Searching for the ones that survived often lands you on ad-stuffed mirror sites with fake download buttons. This site tries to be the opposite: official links only, no ads, no third-party trackers, and an honest answer to “is it still up?”
How status is checked
- On every sweep a script requests each game's official homepage the way a normal browser would, following redirects, and records the status and how long the response took.
- Online: the site answered (HTTP 2xx/3xx), or a bot-protection page such as Cloudflare's answered on its behalf.
- Down: no response, DNS failure, page not found, a server error, or the game has officially shut down.
- Unknown: an ambiguous answer, often a site that blocks automated checks. Try it yourself.
“Online” means the website is up. It can't tell you whether a lobby is busy at 3am. Changes show up in the status log.
What gets listed
Games that run in a browser from their official site without a separate download and have some form of multiplayer. Descriptions are short, written from the game's own site or a reliable source (linked on every game page). We only list a launch year when we can source it, and we never invent player counts.
Where the information comes from
- Short descriptions are written from the game's own site or a reliable source, linked on each game page.
- “In its own words” quotes (descriptions, controls, “no account needed”, mobile support) are copied verbatim from the official homepage, and our build checks they still match the text we read.
- Wikipedia excerpts are shown only when the article's Wikidata entry lists the game's official website (or the article was our description source), and are credited under CC BY-SA 4.0.
- Fact files (developer, release date, genre, platforms) come from Wikidata (CC0).
- Community links (Discord, subreddit, wiki) appear only if the official homepage links to them or Wikidata records them.
- Icons are each site's own favicon, shown small to identify the game. Games without one get a generated tile. We don't use screenshots.
- History, the graveyard and the timeline cite their sources inline.
Featured listings & sponsorships
Listing is and will stay free. Later we may offer clearly labelled Featured spots for indie developers and a sponsor slot in the Tab Open newsletter. Paid placement will never change a game's status or description. Nothing is featured today.
